Key takeaways

  • Send only genuine, human traffic: real people who use your property for its own sake, on their own device, from their real location.
  • Proxies, bots, purchased installs, paid clicks outside the wall, completing offers yourself, and extra apps that reuse the same traffic are never allowed.
  • Broken rules lead to rejections, status 2 reversals, fewer offers or a paused app, and amounts from prohibited activity are not payable.

What are the traffic quality rules for Moonetix publishers?

Moonetix publishers must send only genuine, human traffic: real people who use your website, app or community for its own sake and complete offers on their own device, from their real location. Bots, proxy traffic, purchased installs, paid clicks outside the offerwall, completing offers on your own properties, and extra properties that reuse the same traffic are prohibited. Results that break the rules are rejected or reversed, amounts from prohibited activity are not paid, and poor quality can cost you offers or a paused app.

This page is the rulebook, taken from section 7 (publishers) and section 9 (prohibited conduct) of our Terms of Service. How we check results is explained in How Moonetix checks traffic quality, and where and how you may promote the wall is in Promoting your offerwall.

What counts as genuine traffic?

Genuine traffic is a person who already uses your property, chooses to open the wall, and completes an offer because the reward is worth it to them. Advertisers pay for exactly that, so it is also what keeps your reversals low and your offers available.

Illustrative example: genuine vs not genuine

A player of your browser game runs out of gems, taps “Earn gems”, installs a game from the wall on their own phone, and reaches level 5. That is genuine. The same install bought from an install exchange, or done by one person on five accounts behind a VPN, is not, even if the screenshot looks identical.

The advertising industry draws the same line. The Media Rating Council treats known data center traffic as General Invalid Traffic in its 2017 memo on invalid data-center traffic, and app stores ban installs that are faked: Google Play’s User Ratings, Reviews, and Installs policy prohibits inflating install counts by illegitimate means. An advertiser who receives that kind of install from your wall will reverse it.

Rules for the property itself

Your account is approved by hand, and once it is, every app you add goes live right away. Each property must still meet the requirements in section 7 at all times, and we may pause or remove one that does not. In short, each property must:

  • be live, reachable and have real content and real users of its own (there is no minimum size);
  • be owned or run by you, with true information in your application;
  • have no adult, illegal or infringing content;
  • not be built mainly to generate completions from bots, proxies, bought installs or your own accounts;
  • treat its users fairly: explain how rewards work and when they are paid, pay what it promises, and never ask users to pay to join or to unlock their rewards.

Each business holds one Moonetix account unless we agree otherwise in writing. Several apps in that account are fine for genuinely different setups; Multiple apps in one account explains when to add one.

What publishers must never do

RuleWhat it means in practice
No bot or proxy trafficEvery visitor is a real person on a real connection. No scripts, traffic bots, or traffic routed through proxies to look like another country.
No purchased installsDo not buy installs, sign-ups, or completions from install exchanges, task sites, or click farms and send them through your wall.
No incentivized clicking outside the wallDo not pay or reward people for clicking Moonetix tracking links somewhere else, such as in a chat group or a paid-to-click site.
No self-completionDo not complete offers on your own properties to generate revenue. Check your setup with a test postback instead, which credits nobody.
No duplicate propertiesDo not create several apps or sites to reuse the same traffic, for example so one audience can complete the same offers twice.
No misleading promotionDo not describe offers as easier, faster, or better paid than they are.

A second app for a genuinely different setup is fine. If part of your audience needs a different currency, or you run a separate website, add a second app for it and describe it honestly when you create it.

Traffic you are responsible for

The Terms make you responsible for everyone who sends traffic through your account or your properties, such as sub-publishers, partners, contractors or staff, as if it were your own traffic. Their breaches count as yours. If you run an offerwall network with publishers of your own, the Terms add three conditions: send each publisher’s own ID in sub1 and a user ID that is unique across your whole network, pass these rules on in your own terms, and forward our reversal postbacks to your publishers.

Keep records of where your traffic comes from, such as traffic sources, campaigns, placements and the user IDs you send, for at least 12 months. When we ask during a fraud review or an advertiser question, you have 7 days to send them, and earnings the review concerns may be held while it is open.

Rules your users must follow

Your users are bound by the same Terms, and their behavior is your traffic quality. Under section 9, nobody may:

  • use bots, scripts, auto-clickers, click-simulating extensions, emulators, or virtual machines;
  • use VPNs, proxies, Tor, or data center addresses to hide their real location or device;
  • use several devices, browsers, or profiles, clear cookies, or change IP addresses to complete the same offer again;
  • give false survey answers or false profile details such as age or country;
  • submit forged, edited, or someone else’s screenshots;
  • buy, sell, or transfer accounts, rewards, or completions.

End users must also be at least 16, and those under 18 should have a parent’s permission. You must not make the wall available below that age; Offerwall age rules covers the details. Rules on your own site that match these, such as one account per person, are your first line of defense. Bulk sign-ups for later misuse are common enough that OWASP lists them as a named threat, OAT-019 Account Creation, and Stop multi-accounting and VPN abuse shows how to defend against it.

Placement and promotion in one paragraph

Show the wall only on your approved properties, open it only after the user clicks, and never in a hidden iframe, a pop-under, behind a paywall, or next to adult, illegal, or infringing content. Say that offers come from third parties, and never present Moonetix as your own product. The full do and don’t table, with wording examples, is in Promoting your offerwall: allowed and prohibited ways.

What a broken rule costs you

OutcomeWhat happens
BlockThe offerwall does not open for the user, and the user appears in Reports, Traffic quality.
RejectionA result that fails before it is credited is never credited: no postback, no payout.
ReversalA credited result later found invalid arrives as a status 2 postback with the same transaction ID, and the payout is deducted.
Fewer offersOffer access per app takes into account how many of your users our checks block and how often your results are reversed.
Holds and blocksWhere there is a material risk of fraud, we may hold or reverse earnings and block devices or users from offers.
Paused app or suspensionWe may pause an app whose traffic quality stays poor, and suspend an integration that presents a security, legal or fraud risk, telling you why.

Amounts that come from fraudulent or prohibited activity are not payable, and an account closed for a breach may not be replaced by a new one. If you think a decision was wrong, use Chat with us in your dashboard or write to support@moonetix.com; decisions that close an account or withhold a settlement are reviewed by a person. The Credits and reversals docs show what a reversal postback looks like, and Publisher earnings, settlement, and reversals explains the effect on your balance.

Your part: a short checklist

  1. Pass a user ID that never changes for the same person, and keep the hash check under Link security on, so nobody can open the wall as someone else. See the offerwall link docs.
  2. Credit only on status 1, and take the reward back on status 2.
  3. Enforce one account per person and no earning on a VPN on your own property.
  4. Check Reports, Traffic quality every week, and look up the user IDs in its Blocked users list on your side.
  5. Watch Reports, Conversions and Reports, Chargebacks. A rising share of rejections or reversals from one source is the signal to look closer.
  6. Keep your traffic source records for 12 months, and ask us before you try a source you are unsure about.

Clean traffic starts with your application

Moonetix is a pay-per-result affiliate network, and our team reviews every publisher application by hand, including your property, your audience and how you plan to show the wall. Put the checklist above in place first, then read Get your publisher account approved.

Frequently asked questions

Can users complete offers through a VPN or proxy?

No. VPNs, proxies, Tor, and data center addresses that hide a user’s real location are prohibited, because offers are priced and targeted by country, and the offerwall blocks them before it opens.

Can I complete offers on my own offerwall?

No. Completing offers on your own properties to generate revenue is never allowed. Use Send a test postback in Integration status, on your app’s Integration tab, to check your integration.

Can I have more than one app?

Yes, for a genuinely different setup, such as a different currency or a separate website. Extra apps that reuse the same traffic are not allowed.

Can I buy traffic for my site?

You can advertise your property to win real users. You must not buy installs, completions, or clicks on tracking links, and the people who reach the wall must still be genuine users of your property.

Am I responsible for traffic from my sub-publishers?

Yes. The Terms treat traffic from sub-publishers, partners, contractors and staff as your own traffic, so their breaches count as yours.

Does traffic quality affect which offers I get?

Yes. The Terms say offer access takes into account how many of your users our fraud checks block and how often your results are reversed, and an app whose quality stays poor can be paused.
