Key takeaways
- Change your username in the Profile information card on the Account page, and it applies right away.
- A username is 3 to 20 letters and numbers, with no spaces or symbols, and must not be taken or reserved.
- Change your email with Change email in the same card: confirm the new address with a 6-digit code sent to it.
How do you change your Moonetix username or email?
Open Account in the sidebar, type a new name in the Username field of the Profile information card, and click Save. To change your email address, click Change email in the same card and confirm the new address with a 6-digit code we send to it. Your username changes at once; your email only changes after you enter the code.
Username and email at a glance
Both live in the same card, but they do very different jobs. Your username is a display name. Your email is how you log in and where every code and security notice goes, so changing it is protected more strongly.
| Username | Email address | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Profile information, Username field | Profile information, Email address row |
| Used for | The name in the top right corner and on payout summaries if you leave your name and company empty | Logging in, login codes, password reset codes and important notices |
| Confirmation | None, it applies when you click Save | A 6-digit code sent to the new address (plus your current password, or a second code) |
| Logs out other devices | No | Yes |
| Rules | 3 to 20 letters and numbers, not taken, not reserved | A real, permanent address that no other Moonetix account uses |
Step by step: change your username
- Click Account in the sidebar, under the Account heading, or click your avatar and username in the top right corner. The Account settings page opens.
- The first card is Profile information. Click into the Username field. The line under it says “This is your current username.”
- Type the new username. The line under the field checks it as you type, shows “Checking...”, and then, for example, “This username is available.”
- Click Save. You will see “Username saved.” The new name shows in the top right corner at once.
The Save button stays gray until you type a username that is different from your current one and available. The change is listed as Username changed in the Recent security activity card further down the page.
Username rules
- 3 to 20 characters.
- Letters and numbers only, without spaces or symbols.
- Not already used by another account.
- Not a reserved name.
The messages you may see under the field are “Use 3 to 20 letters and numbers, without spaces or symbols.”, “This username is already taken.”, and “This username is reserved. Please choose another one.”
Keep personal details out of your username
Your username is not a secret and it is not a login. Do not put your email address, phone number or a password hint in it.
How to change your email address
Your email is shown in the Email address row of Profile information, with a green Verified badge and the note “Used for login codes and important notices.”
- Click Change email in the Email address row. The Change email address window opens.
- Type the New email address. If your account has a password, also enter your Current password.
- Click Send code. We send a 6-digit code to the new address. If you sign in only with Google or Discord, the button says Send codes: we also send a code to your current address to check that it is you.
- In Confirm your new email, enter the code (or both codes) and click Change email. You will see “Email address changed. Your other devices were logged out.”
Your email stays the same until you enter the code, and codes expire in 15 minutes. While you wait, the row shows “Waiting for the code we sent to” the new address, and the button reads Enter the code. You can click Cancel change to stop. Inside the window, Send a new code (or Send new codes) resends, and Use a different address starts over.
Why two checks?
Whoever controls your email can reset your password, so an email change is the most sensitive change on the page. The OWASP Authentication Cheat Sheet recommends two things here: prove it is the account owner (with the current password, or another factor), and prove the new address is real before switching. Moonetix does both, and also emails your old address that the change was made, so a change you did not make does not go unnoticed. Why account changes need a code covers this in more depth.
Rules for the new address
- It must be a valid address and not the one you already use (“This is already your email address.”).
- It cannot be a temporary one (“Please use a permanent email address, not a temporary one.”).
- It cannot belong to another Moonetix account (“This email address is already used by another Moonetix account.”).
- Too many tries in a short time show “Too many attempts. Please try again in an hour.”
Protect the mailbox you choose
Login codes, password reset codes, payout method codes and important notices all go to this address, so the mailbox itself becomes the key to your Moonetix account. Pick one you will keep for years, and secure it: a long unique password and multi-factor authentication on the email account. CISA’s password guidance recommends at least 16 characters and a different password for every account. Be wary of messages that ask you to “confirm” your account through a link: the FTC’s phishing guide advises going to the site yourself instead of using the link in the message. Secure your Moonetix account explains why your mailbox matters.
On a phone
Tap More in the bar at the bottom of the screen and then Account, or tap your avatar in the top right corner. Profile information is the first card under your account summary. The Change email address window opens over the page, and most phones offer to paste the code straight from the email.
Your name on payout summaries
The name on your payout summaries is not your username. Further down the same card, Name and address (“Optional. Shown on your payout summaries.”) has the fields First name, Last name, Company name, Tax ID or VAT number, Company address, Address line 2, City, Postal code and Country. Fill in what applies and click Save changes; you will see “Billing details saved.” Payout summaries show your company name if you set one, otherwise your first and last name, and only your username if all of these are empty. See How to read the Payments page.
Good to know
- You log in with your email address, or with Google or Discord, not with your username. Changing your username does not change how you log in.
- The email of a linked Google or Discord account is separate from your Moonetix email. Changing one does not change the other. See Log in with Google or Discord, and link accounts.
- An email change logs out your other devices. Log in there again with the new address.
- Your marketing email choice moves with you: if you had Marketing emails off, it stays off for the new address. Account and security emails always arrive.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use symbols or spaces in my username?
No. Use 3 to 20 letters and numbers only.
Why is the Save button gray?
The username is unchanged, does not follow the rules, or is already taken. Read the message under the field.
Can I log in with my username?
No. The login page asks for your email address and password, or you can use Google or Discord.
Why do I need a code to change my email?
Your email receives your login and reset codes, so the code proves that the new address is yours and that it is really you asking.
I no longer have access to my old email. Can I still change it?
If your account has a password, yes: you only need your current password and a code sent to the new address. If you log in only with Google or Discord, a code also goes to the old address, so contact support.
Does changing my email change my linked Google or Discord account?
No. Linked accounts stay linked and keep their own email. Only your Moonetix login and notice address changes.
