Key takeaways
- PropellerAds now presents itself to advertisers, and its publisher page redirects to Monetag, a platform run by the same company, Propeller Ads Ltd.
- Popunder, push and full-page formats earn on almost any traffic but carry real costs: AdSense will not serve on sites that trigger pop-unders, and Chrome can quiet or filter abusive experiences.
- Pick the alternative by what your site is: high-traffic content sites suit managed display, small sites suit open networks, and sites with logged-in users can add a pay-per-result offerwall.
What are the best PropellerAds alternatives?
The closest PropellerAds alternatives for publishers are Monetag (PropellerAds’ own publisher platform), Adsterra and HilltopAds, which sell similar popunder, push-style and banner formats with no strict traffic minimum. If you want to move away from those formats, Google AdSense, Ezoic and Media.net sell display and native ads with stricter entry rules. If your site or app has logged-in users who earn points or a currency, a pay-per-result offerwall can sit next to any of them.
The right choice depends less on which network “pays most” and more on what your traffic is and what you are willing to show your visitors. This guide covers what PropellerAds is today, what its formats cost you in user experience and policy, and which alternative fits which kind of site. Network facts come from each company’s own pages, checked on November 4, 2026.
What PropellerAds is today
If you go looking for the PropellerAds publisher program, you will notice something first: the PropellerAds publisher page now answers with a permanent redirect (HTTP 301) to monetag.com. Monetag’s site lists its legal name as Propeller Ads Ltd, with Monetag as the alternate name. In other words, the publisher side of PropellerAds runs under the Monetag brand, while propellerads.com speaks to advertisers (“Launch your first campaign”).
The formats on each side, as the two sites list them on November 4, 2026:
| Side | Site | Formats listed |
|---|---|---|
| Advertisers | propellerads.com | Popunder (Onclick), Push / In-Page Push, Interactive Ads, Telegram Mini Apps, Paid & Organic Social, DSP / oRTB |
| Publishers | monetag.com | Popunder, Push, Vignette Banner, In-Page Push, SmartLink, plus in-app and Telegram Mini App monetization |
So if you were searching for PropellerAds alternatives because you are unhappy with the publisher program, Monetag is not an alternative in the business sense. It is the same company. The real alternatives are other networks, or a different kind of monetization.
The formats: what each one does to your visitors
PropellerAds-style networks became popular because their formats earn on traffic that classic display networks reject. That comes with trade-offs you should understand before you pick any network that sells them.
Popunder
A popunder opens an advertiser page in a new tab or window, usually behind the one the visitor is reading, often triggered by a click anywhere on your page. It pays on volume, works on almost any niche, and never takes space on the page. The cost: visitors often notice the extra tab and connect it to your site. And the policy cost is concrete. Google’s AdSense ad placement policies say publishers may not place Google ads on sites that contain or trigger pop-unders, and that you are responsible for making sure no ad network uses such methods on your AdSense pages. Running popunders and AdSense on the same site is not an option.
Push notifications
Push ads need the visitor to accept a browser notification prompt; Monetag’s own format page says push traffic consists of users who agree to receive messages. Once they accept, ads arrive even when they are not on your site. The risk sits in how you ask. The Chromium team wrote in its post Protecting Chrome users from abusive notifications that requests designed to mislead, trick or force users into allowing notifications, such as requiring it to view content or misleading pre-prompts, count as abusive, as do notifications that look like fake chat messages or system warnings. Since Chrome 84, such sites get a quieter prompt that warns users the site may be trying to trick them.
In-page push and vignette banners
In-page push is a small ad that looks like a notification but lives inside your page, so no permission is needed. Monetag describes its Vignette Banner as a small banner that appears in the center of the page while the user browses. Both are less disruptive than a popunder, but anything that covers your content is close to what the ad industry calls an interstitial.
Interstitials and full-page ads
The Better Ads Standards from the Coalition for Better Ads list the ad experiences people found most annoying in its consumer research (more than 66,000 consumers, according to the Coalition). On desktop the list includes pop-up ads, prestitial ads with countdown and large sticky ads; on mobile it adds prestitials, flashing animated ads, full-screen scrollover ads and postitials with countdown. The Coalition defines pop-ups as interstitials that pop up and block the main content of the page.
This matters for two reasons. Google’s AdSense help page on the Ad Experience Report says Chrome will filter ads on a site that has been in “Failing” status for more than 30 days, and that compliance with the Better Ads Standards is required by the Google Publisher Policies. And Google Search Central’s guide to avoiding intrusive interstitials says content-blocking dialogs can make your content hard for search engines to understand and lead to poor search performance.
Patterns that cost you more than they earn
Do not gate content behind “allow notifications to continue”, do not let ad scripts fire on your own buttons or close icons, and do not stack a popunder, an in-page push and a vignette on the same page view. Google’s Abusive Experiences Report lists fake messages, unexpected click areas, misleading close buttons and auto redirects as abusive.

The alternatives, one by one
Monetag: if you only want a new dashboard
Monetag’s homepage says it has no strict minimum traffic requirement, no minimum pageviews and no niche restrictions, but approval needs real organic traffic and original content, and free hosted platforms are not supported. Its FAQ lists minimum payouts by method: $5 for PayPal, Skrill and Webmoney, $20 or $30 for Payoneer depending on country, $100 for crypto and $500 for wire. The homepage promises “weekly payouts” while the FAQ says payments are processed biweekly, so confirm the schedule in your account. Remember it is the same company, so a policy or quality problem you had with PropellerAds is unlikely to change.
Adsterra: the closest independent match
Adsterra’s publisher page lists Popunder, Social Bar (which it also calls In-Page Push or Interstitials), Native Banners, Banners and Smartlink, and its FAQ says there are no traffic or other limits to start. Its help center says payouts run twice a month, with method minimums from $5. For thresholds by method and the advertiser side, see Adsterra alternatives, which covers Adsterra in detail.
HilltopAds: weekly payouts
The HilltopAds publisher page lists Popunder/Popup, In-Page, Video VAST, Video Slider, Banner, MultiTag and Direct Link formats, a $20 minimum and payouts every Tuesday on Net7, with site verification by file or meta tag. It sells the same kind of formats, so the trade-offs above still apply.
Google AdSense: if you are ready to drop popunders
AdSense pays for display ads and is the default for content sites, but it needs an owner aged 18 or older (or a parent or guardian account), original content that attracts an audience, and a site that follows its program policies, per Google’s eligibility page. Because of the pop-under rule above, you must remove popunder scripts before you apply. If you were rejected before, read why AdSense did not approve your site, and for more options see AdSense alternatives.
Ezoic: only for large sites now
Ezoic’s support article on requirements says new sites are generally required to have 250,000 or more monthly active users, and that sites added after February 19, 2026 must meet it; earlier sites are grandfathered while they keep using Ezoic. That puts it out of reach for most PropellerAds publishers. Ezoic alternatives covers the options below that line.
Media.net: contextual display for content sites
Media.net’s publisher page describes premium display, native and video demand and a managed header bidding product built on Prebid. It does not publish entry requirements there, so ask before you apply. It suits established content sites with written articles, not download or streaming pages.
How to choose by what your site is
- Download, streaming, link or tool pages with traffic from many countries: you will likely stay with popunder-style networks. Compare Monetag, Adsterra and HilltopAds on payout methods you can actually receive, and keep to one aggressive format per page.
- A content site that wants search traffic to grow: move toward AdSense or Media.net now, and Ezoic or other managed platforms later. Expect lower earnings at first while you remove formats that hurt the page. Best ad networks for publishers lists more options.
- A small site: traffic minimums rule out managed display, so look at ways to monetize a low-traffic website before you add more ad units.
- A site, app, game or community with logged-in users: an offerwall pays per completed offer and only appears when a user chooses to open it. See the next section.
Compare networks on effective earnings per thousand page views, not on advertised CPM rates. eCPM vs RPM explains the difference, and the eCPM calculator does the math for your own numbers.
A less intrusive option for logged-in communities
Popunders and push ads exist to earn from visitors you may never see again. If your visitors log in, you have a different asset: users with an account, a balance and a reason to come back. That is where an offerwall fits. Users open a page of offers (try an app, finish a game level, answer a survey), complete one, and get your site’s points or currency. You earn per completed offer, nothing pops up, and nothing covers your content.
Moonetix is a pay-per-result affiliate network built for this case: publishers add the Moonetix offerwall so their users earn the publisher’s own currency. It is honest to say what it is not. It does not replace display or popunder ads on a site where visitors are anonymous one-time readers, because an offerwall needs users who have an account to credit. Users on VPNs, proxies, Tor or data center networks are blocked from the wall, and users must be at least 16. It fits rewards sites, games, Discord or Telegram communities, forums and apps that already run points or levels.
Illustrative example: a gaming forum with 3,000 active members
A forum runs a popunder on every thread and wants to drop it on member pages. It adds a points system and an earn page. If 400 members open the wall in a month, 15% complete an offer and the average earning is $0.70 per completion, the wall adds $42, while guests still see the forum’s existing ads. Sample figures only; try your own with the offerwall earnings calculator.
How to add Moonetix to your site or app
If your site has user accounts, adding Moonetix next to your current ads takes four steps.
- Apply as a publisher at moonetix.com. Every application is reviewed by hand, and once you are approved, apps you add are live right away.
- Add your site or app in the dashboard and set the currency name, icon, conversion rate, user split and wall design.
- Pick the integration: a signed offerwall link or iframe built on your server (see the offerwall link docs), a floating Earn button for websites, or the Android, iOS, Unity, Flutter or React Native SDK in an app.
- Credit users only on your server from the signed postback, test with Test your app before launch, and follow offerwall placement so members find the wall.
Earning from members without another popup
Moonetix pays you per completed offer, in a wall your users open themselves, with your own currency and design. See how the wall works or get in touch with questions before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
Is Monetag the same as PropellerAds?
They are run by the same company. The PropellerAds publisher page redirects to monetag.com, and Monetag’s site lists Propeller Ads Ltd as its legal name, while propellerads.com focuses on advertisers.
Can I use PropellerAds or Monetag together with AdSense?
Not with popunders. Google’s ad placement policies do not allow Google ads on sites that contain or trigger pop-unders, so you would have to remove that format first.
Are popunder ads bad for SEO?
Google does not name popunders in its search guidance, but it says intrusive interstitials and dialogs that block content can lead to poor search performance, and popunders often annoy visitors enough to hurt return visits.
Which PropellerAds alternative has no minimum traffic?
Monetag and Adsterra both say on their own sites that they have no strict traffic minimum, and HilltopAds does not state one. Ezoic now asks for 250,000 monthly active users for new sites.
What is less intrusive than push and popunder ads?
Standard display and native ads that follow the Better Ads Standards are less intrusive. For sites with logged-in users, an offerwall is opt-in: it only appears when a user chooses to open it and pays per completed offer.
Can an offerwall replace PropellerAds on my site?
Only for the part of your audience that logs in. Anonymous one-time visitors cannot be credited a reward, so most sites keep some ads for guests and add the wall for members.
